Blue Gold: American Jeans

August 4th, 2009

Just as my taste in denim started to shift towards fashiony, European jeans, I watch this trailer and my interest in vintage and American-inspired jeans is revitalized. This documentary looks really interesting because it follows both American and Japanese denim enthusiasts and the culture that they are a part of. I don’t know anything about [...]

This 42-second short by Chris Milk reveals a man’s life flashing before his eyes. If this was my own timeline, I would only have reached up to the graduation part. I suppose my next milestone will be getting punched in the face by Pauly Shore.

Escape From City 17

April 29th, 2009

Check out this Half-Life inspired short by the Purchase Brothers. Apparently it was made with a budget of $500. Cant wait for part 2

Parks and Recreation

April 20th, 2009

This show is filmed documentary style and the main character is an obliviously stupid person in a high position. There’s also Rashida Jones and an Indian actor. No, it’s not The Office 2, it’s Parks and Recreation. The new show from the same creators may seem like an Office clone, but after the success of [...]

Tyson

April 12th, 2009

This documentary by James Toback is an insightful look into the life of Mike Tyson, from the eyes of the former heavyweight champ himself. The film chronicles his eventful life, in and out of the ring. Tyson has been the subject of many controversies including his divorce, incarceration, and Evander Holyfield’s ears, but this interview [...]

Spring Break Movie Reviews

April 1st, 2009

I watched only three movies last week during spring break: two in theaters and one at home. I’m super tired right now so I’mĀ justĀ gonna write one sentence about each movie.
Role Models

Pretty funny, but the story trailed off at the end.
Stephen-recommended? yes
Watchmen

Story was decent, the characters are really what made the movie.
Stephen-recommended? yes
I Love You, Man

Very [...]

The Wait List

March 19th, 2009

Check out this comedy group out of UCLA, The Wait List. One of the guys, Steven Wilson, is actually a desma homie, which is how I found the videos in the first place. Very funny stuff and genuinely professional production quality.

Movie Review: Chocolate

March 18th, 2009

Chocolate is the latest film from Prachya Pinkaew which features newcomer Yanin Vismitananda as an autistic young woman with amazing martial arts abilities. It doesn’t take a martial arts expert to notice that the style of fighting in the movie isn’t your typical Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan fanfare. This brutal, wireless, Muy Thai style of fighting [...]

Comedy’s New Legends

March 15th, 2009

I’m a huge fan of this recent generation of comedians, so I enjoyed reading about them and seeing them recreate iconic comedians. The list of photographed comedians include Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Jason Bateman, Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen.

The first week of the new Late Night with Jimmy Fallon just ended and I think theres been enough content aired that I can judge whether or not I like/will like this show. Of course I have high standards for the show and for Jimmy himself because Conan was my favorite late night talk show [...]
